BOUND NORTH.
RETURN OF THE DISCOVERY. United Press Association—By Xlectrle Tel egraph—Copy r 1 gh t SYDNEY, March 9. A message from the “Discovery,” sent on March 5, says that the ship failed to obtain further coal, and is returning to Australia. The ship’s position is now latitude 51.20 degrees, longitude 101 degrees. On February 19, following the final landing on Macßobertson Land, the weather held good, but as the coal reserves were very low, any further extension of the programme along the Antarctic coast was considered unreasonable.
In any case, to reach Australia, the “Discovery” will have to rely principally on her sails.
