BUDGET DEFICIT.
HEAVIER TAXATION PROPOSED IN CANADA. United Press Association- By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 8, 5.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, March 6. Faced with the prospect of a large deficit for the year, the Prime Minister, Mr Bennett, and his Cabinet, are plann'ng new taxes. It is understood a sales tax on all manufacturers and retailers will be increased from 1 to 4 per cent.; a 2 per .cent, turnover tax will be imposed on manufacturers and wholesale merchants; newspaper postage rates and corporations tax will both be increased.
