WAIMATAITAI SCHOOL
ANNUAL SWIMMING SPORTS. The annual swimming sports of Waimataitai School were held at West End baths yesterday afternoon, when the weather was favourable, although cloudy and slightly cold. There was a large attendance of parents and friends, including the chairman of the School Committe (Mr G. Benstead), and Mr J. G. Jowsey, a member of the Committee, who gave the staff assistance in the conduct of the events. The programme was of a comprehensive nature, and the number of competitors, and the high standard of swimming, proved that the staff is doing its utmost to encourage the sport. The headmaster (Mr R. A. Malcolm), in a brief welcome to parents and friends, thanked all for their support. The school, he said, did not encourage the children by offering big prizes, but by impressing on them the need for a good sporting spirit.
