MAORI IN TROUBLE. By Telegraph—Press Association HAMILTON, March 3. Edward Walker, a young Maori, was found guilty of forgery and theft of £l6 in the Supreme Court. At the Supreme Court, David George McGifford and Barney Vincent Reardon were convicted of breaking, entering and theft on October 25th at Greymouth. of three suitcases, two suits, one overcoat, sixteen boxes of handkerchiefs, six men’s shirts, eighteen pairs of ladies’ hose, twenty-four pairs of men’s hose, two cushion covers, two table runners, and two supper cloths, the property of Ross and Glendinning. Sentence was deferred till Thursday. On a charge of indecent assault on a male at Waiuta, Peter Joseph O’Neill was acquitted. Gregory O’Neill pleaded guilty to a charge that, being married, he went through a form of marriage with Margaret Robinson Stewart. Sentence was deferred till Thursday.

The hearing of a charge of attempted murder against a woman was deferred till June 10th, accused being physically unfit to plead.

Lionel George Hood and John Joseph Morris, was charged with breaking, and entering, and theft of jewellery of John Tennent, jeweller, Greymouth. The case is unfinished.

VERDICT OF “NOT GUILTY.” By Telegraph—Pross Association # HAMILTON, March 3. A verdict of not guilty in the case in which William Barrett Browning was charged with assaulting his wife, was returned by the Supreme Court at Hamilton. Having allegedly attacked his wife with a hatchet, Browning, aged 58, a camp cook, was charged before his Honour Mr Justice Smith and a jury with assault so as to cause actual bodily harm. The charge originally was of attempted murder, but was reduced by the grand jury.
