OUTBREAK IN FIJI. United Press Association —By deotrlo Telegraph—Copyright SUVA, March 3. A fire at 3 o'clock this morning badly gutted the wooden shop of Hargreaves, tobacconist, owned by the Garrick estate. A strong wind was blowing at the time. The brigade made a good save of the old wooden block. BUSINESS PREMISES BURNED. By Telegraph—.tress Association NELSON, March 3. Early this morning a fire gutted a portion of a large wooden building in Hardy Street, in which is situated Gorman’s cordial factory, Reg Simpson (fruiterer), Mr H. E. Reed’s family of four, and Mr and Mrs Reed, senr., in a flat above the shop. The latter had a narrow escape in their night attire. Mrs Reed senr., was overcome by smoke and was rescued by her husband. The brigade made a wonderful save, keeping the fire from C. Hunter’s (ieweller), and a big block of wooden shops. The insurances in Gormans Ltd.’s building are £BOO, stock and plant £1250; Geo. Hogg and J. E. Allan (owners of the fruit shop) £1400; Reg Simpson, £3OO on the stock and shoft equipment. Mr Reed lost all, and there was no insurance.
