The South Canterbury Croquet Association’s annual tournament was opened yesterday In Timaru, the weather proving beautiful for the occasion. All the eleven clubs affiliated to the Association were represented at the tournament, and there were visiting players from as far afield as Gore. The competitions commenced during the day were the South Canterbury Championship Singles, for the G. A. Hart Challenge Cup, the A. Grade Handicap "Singles, B. Grade Level Singles, B. Grade Handicap Singles, C Grade Level Singles, C. Grade Handicap Singles, and the Senior Handicap and Junior Handicap Doubles. Play on each of the Timaru courts was exceptionally keen, and many of those who secured wins had to play hard to get them, the margin In some Instances between victors and vanquished being very close.
