OLD “PIONEER” SCUTTLED. United Press Association--By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, February 19. What was left of the old Australian cruiser Pioneer, after stripping at Garden Island, wa stowed to sea yesterday evening and scuttled. The vessel was built thirty-two years ago, and was one' of ' the seven ships of an ex.p» rimental*type midway between the torpedo boat and the light cruiser, which failed 1 to realise expectations. The Pioneer, nevertheless, did great work in wartime, including assisting in the destruction of the German warship Konigsberg and the capture of several merchantmen.
