A message from Wellington states that a rumour has been spread that refugees had been charged railway fares to come out of the stricken area, but this is not true. Service cars and shipping companies also are conveying refugees without thought of charge. The rumour has arisen out of the fact that people making a hurried trip into the area have naturally been charged. Some people have not hesitated to take advantage of the fact that fares have not been charged to refugees, and have endeavoured to make a free sight-seeing trip.
