HOME TEAM WIN BY NINE WICKETS. The match between South Canterbury and North Otago, which was commenced at Fraser Park on Boxing Day, was concluded on Saturday, South Canterbury winning by nine wickets. Blakley ! was the succeeding batsman, and play i continued slow. Cunningham replaced ! Mcßeath after five overs had been played, the board registering ten runs for one wicket. A minute later Borrows was run out, and the board showed 61—6—15. Calder filled the vacancy. With the first ball of McDougall’s twelfth over Calder was caught behind the wickets. 66 —7—l. Maddigan and Laney were now associated, the lastnamed facing Mcßeath. On resuming, Gregory cut Tonkin to tne boundary for four, and followed this with a single off the same bowler. Facing Maddigan, Gregory cut his third ball for a single. Scoring slowed up somewhat in Tonkin’s next over. When Maddigan bowled again, Mason hit eight off the over. Gregory cut the first ball of the ensuing over for a single, and the next one Mason drove for a couple, bringing forty up. Borrows replaced Maddigan at the pavilion end, Gregory scoring a single off his first ball. Mason, getting the bowling, was content to play Borrows for the remainder of the over. Gregory sent Tonkin to the boundary for four with a nice square cut. The batsmen treated Borrows with respect. Zimmerman replaced Tonkin at the north end, and after playing a couple of balls Gregory hit him for four, and off the last ball of the over the same batsman scored a single. Borrows sent down a maiden. Mason cut the second ball of Zimmerman’s next over for a single, and then Gregory hit the same bowler for four, the board showing 55 for no wickets.
