HARRIER CLUB NOTES

CLUB RUNS. Timaru Harriers will hold their Club Championship from Caroline Bay today. Presbyterian Harriers are to be guests of the Cullmanntown Sunday School teachers at the Trinity Sunday School. Anglican Harriers will hold a consolation race. Methodist Harriers and Baptist have finished their runs for the season. Last Saturday was an ideal day for cross-country running. The reports from all clubs are that good musters turned out, and that enjoyable sport was achieved. The Methodist Harriers must be congratulated on the numbers who have been turning out each week. The average has been close on 20. This is very good for a first-season club. Credit is due to their hard-working secretary, S. Hurdley, who has left no stone unturned to keep the Club together.

The prize-winners in the Methodist Harrier Sealed Handicap. S. Hurdley, R. Vincent, R. Nelson, ran a very good race, each in turn taking the lead, and the results were in doubt until the tape was reached.

The Anglican Harriers held their Club championship and sealed handicap on the road last Saturday, starting from St. Mary’s Hall, and finishing at Mr A. S. Elworthy’s, Holme Station. G. Broadhead was considered to have a good chance, and led most of the way but developed leg trouble about a mile from home and had to retire.

R. Lund, who won the Methodist Harriers Club championship last Saturday from a large field has shown much better form this year and although he finished only 16th in the Canterbury Championship, this was quite good, as he had not done any open competition running before this season.

E. Wilson, who finished second to Lund, ran quite a gOod race, and must be congratulated on his first season's cross-country running.

R. J. Taylor has done very well this season, winning the Anglican Harriers’ Club race on the Washdyke Racecourse, and last Saturday the Club championship and sealed handicap. I think this is Ron's first time amongst the prizes.

To-day will finish the cross-country season for the local clubs. Most of the runners are feeling the strain of a heavy season, and intend resting for a few weeks before starting training for the track season.

J. W. Savidan’s brilliant win in the six-mile event in the Empire Games (Canada), was much better than it looked on paper, as the other placed men were internationals.
