BOOK NOTES.

Illustrated editions of two of Mary Webb’s novels will shortly be ready. They will be “Gone to Earth” and “The Golden Arrow.” The complete sets of Mary Webb’s works are becoming more and more popular, and it is a growing custom to give these seven volumes in their apple-green case as a wedding present. It is intended to erect a memorial at Davos, in Switzerland, to James Elroy Flecker, the English poet, who died there in 1915. Flecker was a son of the Rev. W. H. Flecker, formerly headmaster of Dean Close School, Cheltenham. He was only thirty years old when he died. His drama “Hassan,” was produced in London with great success after his death. Lord David Cecil has been awarded the Hawthornden Prize for his biography of Cowper, “The Stricken Deer.” A history o£ the Queen's Bays, written by Mr Frederic Whyte and Mr Hilliard Atteridge, is of one of the oldest units in the British Army, and it added lustre in the Great War to its long record. It led the right column of the Army of Occupation in the march across the Rhine.
