BOWLING.

EMPIRE TEAM IN NEW YORK. United Press Association—By Electrl* Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK, August 28. The Empire bowlers were honoured at a luncheon by the British Luncheon Club. At the suggestion of Mr Brookes, Australian Trade Commissioner, the Club sent a wireless message to Mr J. H. Scullin, conveying a resolution of sympathy with him in his illness, and wishing him success at the Imperial Conference. Mr Brookes lauded the bowlers, saying that their influence in Britain and America was far greater than if they were official ambassadors. The bowlers have accepted an invitation to play at Montclair (New Jersey) on Saturday. Mr Harry Furse, a former president of the American Bowling Association, said that plans were under way for a bowling tournament among American, British, Australian, South African, Irish and Scottish teams in conjunction with the 1932 Olympic Games at Los Angeles. Mr Alley stressed the need of Empire unity. During his travels he had observed idleness in England, for which he blamed the apparent unwillingness to purchase British goods.
