CARE OF CARPETS.
With proper care a good rug or carpet should last about fourteen years. Excessive wear in parts or an unequal floor, often causes a change to take place in the shade. This can be remedied by turning the carpet frequently and lining it. When sweeping I :'xe strokes should be with the nap and not against it. Care should be taken when using a beater, as it is liable to break the strands. If a vacuum cleaner is used, see that all attachments are correctly fitted to prevent damaging the carpet. According to the latest views, cigar or cigarette ashes, when dropped on the carpet, do not damage the fabric. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about face powder, for when dropped on the carpet it usually spots and discolours it.
