PYNE, GOULD, GUINNESS, LTD. pYNE, GOULD, GUINNESS, LTD. ADDINGTON MARKET REPORT. WEDNESDAY, 20th AUGUST, 1930. STORE SHEEP —There was a decided increase in the numbers yarded at to-day’s sale, and a much improved demand from farmers and graziers. The attendance was also much larger than at recent sales, and prices rose on an average by from 1/- to 2/- per head. The entry comprised chiefly ewes in lamb, there being a few pens of wethers, and two or three small pens of hoggets. We quote:—Extra good two-tooth halfbred ewes in lamb to Leicester rams at 31/6; good 2-tooth halfbred ewes at 25/- to 28/3; good 6 and 8-tooth halfbred ewes 18/- to 20/9, medium ditto 12/- to 15/6, ordinary 9/- to 11/-; good sound-mouth threequarterbred ewes to 25/3, halfbred wethers to 16/-, backward two-tooth wethers 8/6; ewe hoggets 15/6 to 16/6, and wether hoggets 9/6. FAT LAMBS. —The entry comprised about 400 head, which sold well up to late rates. A few extra quality brought over 30/-. Anything showing quality was largely sought after by butchers, and brought its value. In the springlamb section there were 16 yarded, top price being 36/9. We quote:—Spring lambs at from 1/- to 1/3 per lb, according to quality. FAT SHEEP—Contrary to expectations, there was another heavy yarding of fat sheep, the whole of that portion of the yards being fully taken up. The market opened at a slightly lower rate than at the previous sales, and continued so for about two races. As the sale progressed, however, the demand increased, and by the time the middle of the sale was reached prices were on a par, and in the case of good butchers’ ewes a shilling above last week’s rates. Top price for wethers was 43/10 for some exceptionally heavy sheep. Top price for ewes for the Account Mr H. Withell, 70 ewes at 18/10 to 22/10; A/c. Mr F. Forsyth and Son (Ealing), 80 ewes at 19/4; A/c. Mr J. W. Withell (Ealing), 22 ewes at 20/10 to 21/4; A/c. Mr J. T. Charles (Rangitata), 53 ewes at 19/7 to 21/7, and 4 wethers at 30/7; A/c. Mr A. FAT CATTLE—The yarding consisted of 460 head, compared with 550 at the Grand National double sale a fortnight ago. The yarding did not display the same evenness of quality as at recent sales, although there were several choice lines of steers forward. The entry consisted mostly of local cattle, with a consignment of 80 from the North Island. The market opened very irregularly. In the early part of the sale values eased by about 30/to £2 per head, but later firmed a little, and the market closed at about £1 to £l/10/- below rates ruling at the last sale. Top price for steers was £23/2/6. and top price for cows £l6/2.6.
