BLAKEBURN TRAGEDY
TEN BODIES DISCOVERED. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received August 19, 10.10 p.m.) HAMILTON, August 19. A message from Coalmont states that ten bodies were discovered in the Blakeburn Mine on Monday night. (A message from Coalmont, British Columbia, published on Saturday, stated that, after twenty hours of unsuccessful efforts to get through the falls of rock, the plight of 46 men entombed in the Blakeburn mine was regarded as grave. No signal had been heard from them since the explosion, and their exact location was unknown. This brought the total number of deaths to 48. The rescuers working in short relays, came out reekinfg with the semi-poisonous gas, indicating that there was little chance for the survivors. Thirty of the rescuers had been knocked out. Eighteen of the imprisoned men were married, and there were three lots of brothers.)
