The wool market was tested locally | for the second time this winter by the sale held to-day. when catalogues totalling over 4100 bales were offered by seven brov«r.r half the offer- • consisted of fleece wool, the prices realiseu ioi v,»ucn were small comfort to vendors. Passings were fairly frequent, and much of the better class fleeces were held over. There was a large bench of buyers representing all sections of the trade. Competition was well spread, but within well defined limits coarse wools sold fairly well, and in many cases did better than the fine sorts. Fleece wools generally were Id to lid down on Wellington's June sale rates, and in some cases the drop was as much as lid to 2d. There was a good range of crutchings, and competitions for these was very keen. Super crossbred crutchings sold on a par with June rates, but average and inferior sorts showed a decline of French and Germaa buyers were the chief operators in fleece wool and pieces, and secured the bulk. Bradford operated sparingly. Japan end Australia took a good proportion of the crutchings and pieces, and local buyers secured what they wanted. The poster for the Dominions wool sales for the 1930-31 season has already been arranged. For many years the opening sale has been held in Wellington, but this year Auckland will have the first auction, on November 25. This will be followed by Wanganui on November 28, Napier on December 3. Wellington on December 8, and Christchurch on December 12. The order of other sales will be as follows: Timaru —December 15.
