ORARI.

WAIHI BRIDGE. The Waihi Bridge, on the coach road from Orari to Geraldine, has always been a nuisance to motorists in time of flood, owing to the tendency of rivei. to flow across the roadway to the north of the bridge. The Geraldine County Council have at last taken effective steps to remedy the trouble, and it is to be hoped that this spring it will prove an asset to the travelling public when the warm rains flood this river. The approach to the bridge has been built up for the length of a couple of chains, and underneath pipes have been set in so that flood waters instead of running over the road will flow through. The approach itself is still in a rough condition, but further improvements will be made to it. and soon it will be in good condition for motor traffic. The ruts at present are so deep, that the bounce of the ear makes it hit the top surface of the approach. COLD WEATHER ON SATURDAY. The Orari district experienced the unusual sight of a real hoar frost on Saturday morning. Local resident's state that they do not remember a winter with so many hard frosts and dull days as this year s record, but Saturday was the worst ever known. As typical of the set erity of the cold, several motorists, travelling between Winchester and Geraldine, or between Orari and Geraldine, found their windscreenwipers doing heavy service wiping away from the windscreen not moisture from the fog but actual ice. where the moisture from the fog had frozen as soon as it touched the cold glass.
