BRITAIN’S RURAL OUTLOOK.

Labour Cabinet’s Policy NEW MEASURES OUTLINED. (British Official Wireless). RUGBY, August 2. An explanatory memorandum states that the Agricultural Marketing Bill, published yesterday, proposes to allow producers of any agricultural product to which the measure applies to regulate the marketing of that product by means of boards elected by themselves, and in accordance with schemes submitted by themselves. It is proposed that such regulation should be confined to products produced in the area to which the scheme is applicable, and the scheme will be binding on all producers of a regulated product in that area. The interests of the public and of individual producers are to be protected by requiring the Minister’s approval of the scheme, and Parliamentary sanction. Provision is made for producers to be protected by resort, if necessary, to arbitration, and a Consumers’ Committee, to be established for every scheme, will further guard the interests of the general public. Complaints against the schemes will be referred to a committee of investigation.
