MINIATURE RIFLES.

SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. The South Island championship was held on Saturday last in the Drill Hall, and the Timaru range. Although the entries were not as large as in the previous year, the standard of shooting was considerably better. The winners of the teams match, Sydenham B are one of the most successful teams in Canterbury, and well deserved their win. In the individual and aggregate, W. J. Taylor, of Pleasant Point, scored a meritorious win. His team also tied with Timaru and Willowbridge for the England and Mcßae Challenge Cup for the best score of a South Canterbury team in this competition. The competition was a complete success, and credit is due to the president (Mr F. Lewis), and his enthusiastic committee. The following were the teams and scores:—

TIMARU CLUB. The twenty-first and twenty-second shoots were fired on the Timaru range on Monday and Thursday, with a good attendance of members each evening. The best scores were:—S. Rodgers 80, W. Sinclair, J. M. Toneycliffe. The following tied for the Challenge Medal, and will shoot-off:—W. Bradshaw, A. Agnew and W. Malcolm. The leaders in the Club Championship are:—W. Bradshaw 552, A. South 73. Mrs G. Martin’s trophy was won by Mrs Cain and Mrs Pratt’s trophy bv Mrs F. South. On Wednesday evening the Ladies’ Miniature Rifle Club journeyed to Gape’s Valley, where they were beaten in a match with the Men’s Rifle Club by 14 points. On Tuesday evening the Peel Forest Miniature Rifle Club shot a return mr.tch against the Arundel Club at Peel Forest, resulting in a win for Peel Forest by the narrow margin of two points.
