WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. At the monthly meeting of the Hilton Women’s Institute, there was a good attendance. In the absence of Mrs Fletcher, through indisposition, Mrs Brosnahan (vice-president) was in the chair. Correspondence relating to the Dominion Conference was dealt with, and preliminary arrangements were made for the Thrift Exhibition in Geraldine. A demonstration on “How to Stop Arterial Bleeding,” was given by Mrs Williams, of Woodbury. A competition in papier-mache resulted in Mrs Wilks and Miss M. Scott tying for second place. Members spent some time in country dancing under the direction of Mrs Barker. The hostesses were Mesdames C' Brenton, H. Pierce, E. Green and Miss Pierce. BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS. Two members of the Temuka Boxing Club, A. Currie (featherweight), and J. Spillane (lightweight), have been selected to represent South Canterbuty at the New Zealand boxing championships to be held shortly in Palmerston North. The other representative is H. Cullimore (flyweight) of the Timaru Club. CARD TOURNAMENT. In Friday night’s play, Oddfellows played Citizens and Hibernians played Druids. Results were:— Oddfellows v. Citizens. —Cribbage: C. A movement is on foot to start a gun club in Temuka, and a clay bird shoot has been arranged for Thursday. PERSONAL. Constable T. J. Kearney, formerly of this town, left for Greymouth on Saturday after a short stay here. Mr and Mrs Roland Smith (Dunedin), who had been spending a holiday in Temuka, returned to their home on Saturday. Miss M. Radford (Christchurch) is spending a holiday with Mrs W. Radford, Railway Terrace. THE OPTICAL SPECIALIST. The Optical Specialist of John R. Procter’s Ltd. (New Zealand’s leading opticians), Christchurch, will be visiting Temuka on Saturday, August 9th and may be consulted on all defects of eyesight (Glasses) at the United Friendly Societies’ Dispensary between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Appointments may now be made by ringing the United Friendly Societies’ Dispensary.
