COMPETITORS IN PRELIMINARY CONTESTS.

At Hamilton (Ontario), running as the guest in a weekly twilight meeting of the Hamilton Olympic Club, on Friday night, Allan Hillhouse of the Australian team, won the three miles race in a stirring battle with Savidan (New Zealand). He bettered the Canadian record for the event, his time being 14min 25 Jsec. Golding (Australia), ran a quarter mile in 50sec. He was placed second to Wheeler, of Hamilton, with 30yds handicap. Australia and New Zealand are anxious for the Canadian athletes to visit there in December and January. The managers of the teams stated on Friday that an effort would be made to secure the Olympic sprint champion Williams, Ball the quarter miler, Edwards the half miler and others.
