STORE SHEEP—There was a ' medium entry of store sheep, com- j prising mostly aged ewes and a few backward hoggets. There were a few lines of young ewes, which sold well. We quote: —Small ewe hoggets to 9/6, ordinary wether hoggets 8/6 to 11/6; good 2, 4 and 6-tooth crossbred ewes to 28/-. do. halfbred ewes 22/3 to 24/3; sound-mouth halfbred ewes 13/- to 14/3; small 6-tooth S-bred wethers to 16/7, small 2-tooth i-bred wethers 12/- to 13/3. FAT LAMBS—There W'as a small yarding, comprising only 274. The quality was indifferent, with the exception of a few pens of outstanding lambs. Top price for the day was 33/4. FAT SHEEP—The yarding was about a race and a half larger than last week, and comprised a large proportion of good fat ewes, with a fair sprinkling of butchers' wethers. The market opened at below last week's rates, but after the first alley was sold the price increased, and continued on a par with .those at recent sales, with the exception that light and medium ewes eased, throughout. Heavy butchers’ ewes maintained their value, while heavy wethers Were better by 1/6 to 2/1 a head. Lighter wethers maintained last week's rates. We can quote: —On account of Mr J. A. Nichol (Hadlowl, 60 ewes at 16/7 to 20/7; A/c. Mr F. EZ Squire (Hadlow), 60 ewes at 17/7 to 21/71 A/c. Mr T. H. Ivey (Saltwater Creek), 120 ewes at 16/10 to 21/7. FAT CATTLE —There was a total entry of 420. Our yarding consisted of 158 head. The sale’ opened at from about £1 to 30/- a head above last week’s rates, but eased a little as the sale progressed. However, there was a distinctly better tone about the market. We quote the following:— prime steer beef 39/7 to 43/- per 1001 b, heavy steer beef 36/- to 38/6, medium steer beef 33/- to 35/6, best quality cow beef to 38/-, medium quality cow beef 33/- to 36/-, inferior quality cow beef to 31/-. Our sales included: —On account of a North Island client, 49 steers at £ls/17/6 to £l9/2/6; A/c. Mr W W.
