MAORI'S LICENSE CANCELLED. By Telegraph—Press Association HAWERA, July 23. Resulting from a motor collision on the evening of June 3, one of the drivers involved, a Maori named Whitikia Kairimu, was to-day fined £2O, and had his driver’s license suspended for 12 months on a charge of intoxication while in charge of a car. Defendant pleaded not guilty, and protested that he had consumed only two shandies on the day of the accident, but the Magistrate (Mr Salmon) accepted Ae opinion of three witnesses that neither defendant nor a companion were in a fit state to drive. On further charges of negligent driving. and driving without a license, defendant was convicted and discharged. ASSAULT ON REFEREE. By Telegraph—Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, July 23. At the Magistrate's Court, Edward Roebuck was convicted of assaulting a football referee during a match at Okato. He was fined £lO for assault, and £1 for using indecent language; and ordered to pay costs amounting to £2/12/-. THEFT CHARGES. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, July 23. Hector Kenneth Claude Hodges pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking and entering, and theft of goods valued at about £SO, and was committed for sentence. His uncle, Horace James Hodges, charged with receiving the amount of six pounds odd worth of these goods, was convicted and fined £lO, in default three months’ imprisonment.
