BOXING
SOUTH CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIPS. This evening in the Scottish Hall, the Timaru Association will stage the South Canterbury championships. Entries have been received in all classes, so a well varied programme of sixteen bouts should be presented. Prominent among the visiting competitors will be Rodderick (Oamaru), Towers, Lundy and Grieve (Ashburton). Harrison (Waimate), Schmanski, Lambert and Cleverley (Oamaru). and Birchfield (Glenavy). As most of these contestants have already gained championship honours in other tourneys, the competitors drawn from Harry Gunn and Eddie Parker's schools will meet worthy opponents. South Canterbury should be well represented by W. Manning. Jack Connolly, A. Currie and Jack Spillane (Temuka), and Eddie Wade, Ennis Bros., A. McKay, Weston Bros., Cam. Smith and Cullimore (Timaru). Owing to the number of competitors the medical examination will commence at 7.30, when all competitors must be in attendance. Doctors Ulrich, Pea and Fraser will be the medical examiners. As the tourney will be a championship meeting, judges wiH be present from outside Associations to adjudicate where local competitors are concerned. Mr J. Stewart will make his first appearance as a referee at to-night's 1 tourney.
