TIMBER INDUSTRY
INVESTIGATION DEMANDED. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 23. Investigation of the timber industry was promised to a deputation of members of Parliament by the Hon. G. W. Forbes. In the opinion of the deputation, the industry was being crippled because of unfair dumping of American timber into the Dominion, and if a prohibitive tariff was placed on foreign timber, the sawmills would absorb most of the unemployed. It was suggested that New Zealand might bargain with Canada, between timber from Canada and butter from this country. Mr Forbes promised that an inquiry would be held into the position this session.
