WINCHESTER

SCHOOL JUBILEE. On Monday evening, a meeting was held in the Winchester School for the purposes of making arrangements for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Winchester School. Despite the wet night, there was a good attendance present, which included a good number of ex-pupils. Mr T. H. Langford, who presided, explained the object of the meeting, and on the motion of Messrs W. J. Moore and J. Wilks, it was decided to hold the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the school in January.

Mr J. L. White (present headmaster), said he had attended two jubilee celebrations recently in the south, and he outlined the work of the different committees done at those school. Mr Langford suggested forming committees at once.

Mr J. Wilks (an ex-pupil and a former chairman of the school), was appointed chairman. Mr J. Deßenzy secretary; Mr J. C. Mcßratney, treasurer, pro tern; committee, Mrs J. De Renzy, the chairman, secretary and treasurer, Messrs T. H. Langford, D. Louden. W. J. Moore. R. E. Smith, J. Alexander, G. Burborough, and G. H. Blissett.

The sub-committee appointed to get the names of ex-pupils are:—

1870-1889 period.—Messrs J. Wilks, W. J. Moore, J. Deßenzy, R. E. Smith and A. Shaw.

1830-1911 period.—Messrs D. Louden. H. A. Philp, J. C. Mcßratney and G. Burborough.

1911 to the present date.—Messrs J. Alexander. T. H. Langford, J. L. White and R. O’Neill.

The chairman, secretary and treasurer were authorised to draw up a circular to submit to the executive committee for sending to all the ex- ! pupils. i Mr Wilks suggested that the celebrations function should extend over tw’o days—the first day for the expupils, and on the second day the annual picnic of the present school to be held and all the ex-pupils be asked to attend.—This w r as carried.

It was decided to obtain badges and to sell at a minimum of 2 6. available to parents of the present pupils, expupils. guardians of ex-pupils, past teachers, past masters, chairman and school committees. The date of the celebrations was fixed for January 21 and 22. 1931. Mr Langford was authorised to see Mr H. J. Hopkins, captain of the Men’s Miniature Rifle Club, to get the members of the club to arrange a hare drive for the purpose of raising money towards the expenses of the function. MINIATURE RIFLES. The following wall represent the Winchester Men's Miniature Rifle Club against the Clandeboye Club at Winchester on Saturday evening:—Cripps (3). C. Higinbottom, F. Dudman, W. Jackson, A. W. Reilly, D. Louden, W. L. Gudsell, A. McFarlane, O. S. Priest, H. J. Hopkins, A. H. Opie and W. Waple. Twenty-three members of the Winchester Men’s Miniature Rifle Club fired on Monday evening for Mr T. H. Langford’s trophy. D. Louden proved the wanner. The following were the scores:—D. HOCKEY CONCERT. The Winchester Ladies’ Hockey Club gave a most enjoyable concert on Tuesday evening in the Victoria Hall. There was a good attendance. The | concert w f as opened by a pianoforte duet by Misses Jean Davey and Molly White, who opened the second part also. Songs sung by Miss Noeline Findlay. Miss G. South, Mr J. Hamilton and hockey girls. Miss G. South also sang in the second part of the programme, when Mrs D. A. Pearce gave a recitation, other items being a duet by Misses O. and M. Patrick, and duologue by Miss Mary Townley and Master George Townley. Miss | Noeline Findlay danced several dances. The concert concluded with the play •‘Alice’s Blighted Profession” by members of the Hockey Club. The parts j were taken by:—Miss E. Blissett, Mrs D. A. Pearce. Miss M. Patrick, Miss R. South. Miss G. South. Mrs J. C. South, Miss M. Blissett, Miss O. Patrick. The accompaniments were played by Misses May Killoh, Mabel Sinclair and Gladys South. At the conclusion of the concert, Mr W. E. Cook returned thanks on behalf of the Hockey Club to the people for their patronage, and to all those wdio had assisted to make the concert a success. A dance was held after. Mr J.
