SOCIAL NOTES.

Mrs Vernon Bowker, Cave, is on a visit to Christchurch. Mrs P. R. Woodhouse, Bluecliffs, left on Tuesday for Wellington'. Mr and Mrs H. T. Wigley and Miss Traill, Dunstan Downs, Kurow, returned home on Tuesday. Mr and Mrs T. W. Lynch, Church Street, left to-day for the south, where they intend to stay a few weeks. Miss Ethel Gebbie, who had been staying with Mrs A. C. Stephens, Dunedin, arrived yesterday to stay with j Mrs C. S. Bruce, Douglas Street. Mrs Campbell Bebbie and Miss Gebbie, wlio have been staying with Mrs C. Bowker, Sarah Street, have returned to Christchurch. Mrs E. J. Mirams, Beverley Road, will leave to-morrow on a short visit to Christchurch. Mr Mirams will leave to stay with his sister in Dunedin. Mrs Norman Hope, The Grampians, who has been staying with Mrs A. Hope, “Tumanako, Wai-iti Road, has left for Christchurch. Miss Hope Pinckney, Glenarary, Southland, will arrive to-day to stay with Mrs C. H. Tripp, Wai-iti Road for the races. Sister Seymour, of the Timaru Hospital staff, has been granted four months’ leave of absence by the South Canterbury Hospital Board. During this period she will take her Karitane training. Miss M. O. Stoddart, the well-known Christchurch artist, has been advised that two of her pictures—“ The Stocking Glacier, Mount Cook,” and “Goat Creek, Otira”—have, this year, been hung in the Salon des Artistes Francais, Paris. On several previous occasions a similar honour had been conferred upon Miss Stoddart, whose friends will rejoice in her continued success at one of the greatest artcentres in the world.
