AUTOMOBILE ASSN.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the executive of the South Canterbury Automobile Association was held last night. Present—Messrs W. T. Ritchie (in the chair), C. S. Bruce, A. L. Gee, J. M. Jenkins, W. H. Orbell, S. G. McClelland, J. T. Brady, H. A. InnesJones, F. S. Shrimpton, and G. A. Bridges. Mr Ritchie said that Mr J. C. Palliser, who had been recently indisposed, was now convalescent, and hoped that he would soon be able to resume his office as chairman. A letter was received from Mr W. H. Walton, expressing his willingness to continue to act as the Association’s representative on the Peel Forest Board. It was the intention of the Board to provide more accommodation and facilities for motorists during the next financial year. The South Island Motor Union advised that the annual meeting of delegates would be held at Christchurch on September 26. Nominations for the positions of president and two vice presidents were required to be forwarded three weeks prior to that date. With regard to the multiple dome system, the letter stated that all Associations were asked to endeavour to have local bodies in the respective districts use the multiple dome system, and that domes should be of standard dimensions. It was suggested that delegates meet to discuss ways and means of organising a system of road patrol throughout the South Island. Messrs L. J. Watkins, Ltd. wrote forwarding estimates of the cost of supplying envelopes addressed to motor owners in the district. The estimated number was 5000 and the cost £lO. It was decided to write to the firm, pointing out what the Association’s district was, and informing them that the number would be far in excess of the number quoted. Mr McClelland asked if the addresses could not be obtained from the County and Borough Councils, but Mr Orbell pointed out that these bodies could only supply names from driver’s Mr McClelland: “That is what we want.” Mr Brady: “Would that list be preferable to a list of car-owners?” Mr Ritchie: “If it is possible to get it.’* It was resolved to send the proposed letter forward, but to instruct the secretary to make inquiries from the local bodies. It was decided to write to the Timaru, Temuka and and Geraldine Borough Councils quoting the South Island Motor Union’s motion with the regard to the multiple dome system. Messrs Srimpton and Jenkins reported on the quarterly meeting of delegates to the South Island Motor Union held at Oamaru. Mr Brady inquired what was the financial position of the Association.— The secretary reported that there was approximately £4OO in the Post Office Savings Bank, which was £2OO more than last year. Liquid assets amounted to £I2OO. It was decided to go into the financial position fully at next meeting. Mr Jenkins reported that a high macrocarpa hedge at Saltwater Creek, near the Chinese gardens, obscured visibility at the corner.—lt was decided to write to the Levels County Council asking if anything could be done in the matter. It was also decided to ask the Levels County Council what they intended doing to improve corners on the Main North Road on both sides of the Show Grounds. Accounts amounting to £9/4/9 were passed for payment.
