PETROL SCANDAL.
PROSECUTION RESULTS IN MURDER. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright VANCOUVER, July 15. A message from Los Angeles states that the City Hall was the scene of a murder which arose from the investigation of the notorious Julian petrol scandal, in which the public losses exceeded £20,000,000. Mr Motley Flint, a millionaire and leading financier, and former postmaster at Los Angeles, had just finished testifying and was stepping from the witness stand when Frank Keaton, attorney and real estate broker, is alleged to have shot him in the neck, killing him instantly. Keaton surrendered. Mr Flint was vice-president of the Savings Bank, and charges were pending against him, involving the violation of trust in connection with the Julian swindle. Recently he returned from Europe to face the charges and defied Keaton.
