COMMUTED FOR SENTENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, July 16. Pleading guilty in the Magistrate's Court to-day, Frederick Murray (.33), plasterer, arrested at Auckland, on a charge of the theft of a cashbox containing cheques, money orders, postal notes and Government bonds of a total value of £669 16s sd, the property of Messrs Levi and Jackson, Wellington, a legal firm, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. THEFT CHARGES. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, July 16. Ernest William Rawnsley (33), salesman. pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence on charges of breaking and entering by day the house of Mary Ambury and stealing clothes, etc., to the value of £SO 15s, the theft of articles valued at £8 7s from a teacher’s room of the Girls' College and entering a dwelling with intent u commit a crime. Clarence Edward Ducker (20), railway cadet, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering a jewellery premises on various occasions. It was stated that the thefts totalled £4OO, of which £6l was recovered. He was committed for sentence. Edgar william Wilkins, alias Chatfield (34), a steward, pleaded guilty to three charges of forgery of cheques and was committed for sentence. BOOKMAKERS FINED. By Telegraph—Press Association PALMERSTON N.. July 16. Penalties totalling £3OO were inflicted in the Magistrate's Court on three men charged with frequenting a street for purposes of betting. The defendants were James Leonard Puruis, Frank Dean and Charlie Joseph Williams. Each was fined £IOO. Puruis, Dean and Williams were eadi described as substantial bookmakers.
