TOO MANY TIPSY MOTORISTS. By Telegraph—Press Association PALMERSTON N„ July 14. “These cases are getting far too frequent,” observed the Magistrate, when convicting W. H. Lacy, by occupation a salesman, charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car. “Every day one reads in the papers of similar cases. They must be stopped." Defendant was fined £ls and his license cancelled for six months. SIX MONTHS FOR THEFT. By Telegraph—Press Association ASHBURTON, July 14. The minimum penalty of six months’ gaol was imposed on William Frederick Leah, a middle-aged labourer, for theft of £2O, the property of a fellow worker on a farm at Eiffelton. For conversion of a bicycle, the property ol' the same owner, he was convicted and discharged. The money was taken from under a mattress on Friday. The arrest was made at Timaru on Saturday. The cycle and £7/13/- were recovered.
