RECIPROCITY IN TRADE.
NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, July 14. There is to be further discussion between Australia and New Zealand on the question of reciprocity in trade, the Prime Minister told a reporter this evening. Recently the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, representing the New Zealand Government had a preliminary discussion with the Minister for Customs for the Commonwealth. This might be followed up by a further conference between the Commonwealth and the Dominion. “Each country gets a certain amount of preference,” said Mr Forbes. “The whole question has to be examined before we can see what alterations might be made.” Commenting on the Canterbury Fruitgrower’s Association’s desire for a prohibitive tariff on certain fruits imported into New Zealand, Mr Forbes said that this question had been considered by the Government, but no definite attitude had been taken.
