ORARI.
SPINSTERS’ AND BACHELORS’ BALL. The annual ball of the Orari spinsters and bachelors, on Friday evening, proved an outstanding success. The Orari Hall was taxed to its utmost, many visitors being present from Orari Bridge, Woodbury, Geraldine. Hilton, Temuka and Timaru. The hall was decorated with overhead streamers in shades of red, gold, and blue, a snow effect being obtained with touches of cotton wool. The walls were hidden with greenery, similarly decorated with bright colours. Novelty dances added to the enjoyment of the evening, including streamer and confetti dances. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr Ron Meredith and Miss M. Patrick (Hilton), and a lucky spot waltz by Miss Radford (Temuka) and partner. Extras were played by Misses G. South, M. Killoh, and Mr R. LATE SIR JOSEPH WARD. On Friday morning, when the south express pulled in to the Orari railway station, representatives from Geraldine, including Mr j. R. Lack (deputy Mayor), and Mr Flatman (representing the Geraldine County Council), met Sir Cyril Ward, and expressed the sympathy of the district at the loss of Sir Joseph Ward. At the Orari School, the pupils of the school were drawn up in the school playground and stood at attention as a mark of respect while the train bearing the casket pulled into the station and out again, the flag being half-masted d'Aring the ceremony.
