WEST END.
RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the Executive of the West End Ratepayers’ and Householders' Association was held in the West School on Saturday evening. The attendance of members was very good, and Mr J. E. Chiles (president), occupied the chair. The secretary reported that the petition to Parliament asking for a penny-in-the-siot telephone in Highfleld had been very largely signed, practically by all those who had not telephone facilities in their homes; and it was decided that, if possible, a deputation wait on the Rev. Clyde Carr. M.P., asking his assistance in bringing the matter before the Minister. The subject of opening up the road from Quarry Road to Rugby Street was brought forward by a member of the Association, and after some discussion. it was resolved that the matter be further considered at next meeting. Another member brought up the unsatisfactory state of Avenue Road, as regards footpaths and pointed out that the part between Church Street and Wai-iti Road had been much neglected compared with the south end of this old-settled street. —It was agreed that the attention of the Council be drawn to this matter. Several other matters of interest were noted as requiring attention.
