WRESTLING
FIERCE ENCOUNTER AT AUCKLAND. INSIDE RING AND OUT. By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND. July 14. In a fiercely spectacular wrestling match before a crowded house at the Town Hall this evening. Tom Alley (America) defeated Scotty McDougall (Scotland*, obtaining the only fall of the bout in the last round. The men were very evenly matched, and for the first four rounds gave a fine exhibition of fast, scientific wrestling. They were allowed a fair amount of latitude by the referee, and from the fifth round onward the contest became a fierce struggle, with fists and feet used freely on occasion. The climax came in the seventh round when McDougall escaped from an arm pull by rolling through the ropes, j Alley following him. They fought fiercely outside the ropes, disregarding the referee. The seconds attempted to intervene, ana one oi Ailej s supporters, L. Naylor received a blow on the mouth necessitating the insertion of two stitches. The round ended just as McDougall was persuaded to reenter the ring. The end came early in the eighth round, Alley securing a toe-hoid and body press, and forcing his opponent’s shoulders to the mat.
