PLEASANT POINT.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the District High School Committee was attended by Mesdames Arnott and King and Messrs Oborn (chairman), Watson, Popplewell and Wakefield (hon. secretary). The avaluable services of Mr Hughes, retiring member representing the district on the Canterbury Education Board, were placed on record. It was decided to fall in with a request in a circular letter and make an appeal on behalf of cancer campaign funds. Receipt of the quarterly incidental allowance of £2l/5/- was acknowledged. The treasurer reported a credit of £2/7/2 from euchre parties.—lt was decided to continue the series if sufficient support is accorded. Mesdames Arnott and King, as visitors, reported that shingle was required on the playground.—lt was agreed to attend to this and to have several other minor repairs earned out. The headmaster (Mr de Montalk, 8.A.), reported that the roll numbers were 171 in primary and 32 in secondary departments. Minor sicknesses i were adversely affecting the attendances. One pound was voted to Nurse ' Mowat’s presentation fund. Accounts amounting to £lO were j passed for payment. GOLF. Owing to heavy rain on Thursday, the game Geraldine v. Pleasant Point had to be postponed.
