Jane Austen received only £lO for her book “Pride and Prejudice.” This fact is contained in a letter written by Jane Austen to her friend Martha Lloyd, recently offered for sale at Sotheby’s. The letter reads: “ ‘P. and P.’ is sold. Egerton gives £llO for it. I would rather have had £l5O, but we could not both be pleased, and I am not all surprised that he should not choose to hazard so much. . . . The money is to be paid at the end of the twelvemonth.”
