Boil gently for about i hour, drain the peel on a sieve, and when dry dust with sifted sugar and store in covered glass jars. To make a useful flavouring for puddings, cakes, etc., grate the orange-peel and put in widemouthed bottles with layers of sugar. This will keep for years. Orange-peel dried in the oven is also most useful for kindling fires. Corned-beef sandwiches are much more economical and palatable if the meat is put through a soarse mincer after cooking. Add a little of the fat, moisten with some of the liquid and work the whole into a paste. Re-heat fried fish or veal cutlets in a paper bag, closing the end to keep in the steam. To remove rust from steel irons, cover for two days, then with ed lime rub the irons until they are bright again. Mustard mixed with milk to which has been added a pinch of salt will not harden in the pot. The lids of screw-top preserving jars will nevr stick if the lids are well greased on the inside with unsalted lard before being screwed on. To make a simple polish for fingernails, mix one part of lemon-juice with two parts of olive oil. Rub on the nails and when dry polish with a soft buffer.
