NEW DAIRYING BLOOD

Valuable jerseys arrive. FAMOUS CANADIAN STOCK. One of the most valuable importations of Jersey cattle that has yet been brought to New Zealand arrived by the Canadian Constructor recently. The animals were shipped by the wellknown Canadian breeders, Messrs B. H. Bull and Son, of Brampton, Ontario, to-Mr E. Griffiths, of New Plymouth.

The consignment consists of two three-year-old heifers, one five-year-old cow, six young bulls and a five-year-oid bull. All are by leading Jersey Island sires from valuable cows imported from Jersey Island. The five-year-old bull, Dreamer’s Volunteer, which has been purchased by Mr R. S. Scown, of Hawera, is a son of the world-famous bull You’ll Do's Volunteer from an island cow that has many prizes to her credit, including fourth at the American National Show.

Three females are distinguished prize-winners and have been commented upon very favourably by leading judges who have seen them. Flattering remarks were also made in regard to the six young bulls and their aristocratic appearance is also backed up by the best of butterfat ancestry.

The cattle arrived in excellent condition and are now in quarantine at Motuihi, where they have to remain for sixty days. While there the animals are kept at the expense of the owner. Mr Griffiths expressed appreciation of the attention given by the officers of the Department of Agriculture. “Breeders always feel a great measure of comfort in the care which is giyen quarantined cattle by the authorities,’’ he said.
