MINIATURE RIFLES At the weekly meeting of the Orari Men’s Miniature Rifle Oiub on Monday evening, shooting took place for a trophy presented by Mr W. E. Cook. J. A. Henderson, H. Culling, F. Borrell, A. Rysdale, J. Ewart qualified for the shoot-off, and the final shoot resulted ! in a win for F, Borrell. The following were the best scores for the evening:— J. A. Henderson, 7s; H. Smith, 69; H. Culling, 73; O. Smith, 74; G. Bray, 77; J. Hewson, 73; F. Priddle, 73; A. Priddle, 64; F. Borrell, 72; L. Wood, 75; A. Rysdale, 74; J. Ewart, 70; J. Hewson, 72; B. Hewson, 68; R. Priddle, 77; A. Earl, 78. Mr C. E. Fowke, several years prior to 1921 slktionmaster at Orari, and afterwards officer-in-charge of the I central booking office at Christchurch, , has retired after a period of forty > years’ service with the Railway Dej partment. Prior to being appointed at Orari, he had been in charge of the Herbert and Coldgate stations. He ’ was very popular at Orari. | THE WEATHER. The district has again enjoyed a spell of fine weather. Though very dull and muggy over the week-end, the weather cleared on Sunday and two very heavy frosts were experienced. On Tuesday morning 14deg. were registered, while on Wednesday another 13deg. were recorded. Beautiful days, however, folliwed the frosts, though Wednesday’s was first of all succeeded by a heavy fog which enveloped the countryside for an hour or more before the sun appeared. SCHOOL REPAIRS. The Education Board’s workmen are busy at present at the Orari School. Carpenters have been at work during the past day or two effecting repairs to the school and schoolhouse, and they have been followed by painters, who will be there during the next few days. The paperhangers, who had just finished renovating the Belfield schoolhouse, have been on the premises dur- . ing the past few days.
