Are music lessons a necessity? According to one Wellington, solicitor they are. in the course of a court action before Mr T. B. McNeil, S.M., counsel for plaintiff contended that music lessons were a necessity, for, he said, education was a necessity, and music lessons were part of education. The magistrate did not agree with this piece of legal logic, and held that the lessons were not a necessity.

Real lace is another of the feminine notes of the year, and both the Duchess of York and Princess Mary are wearing jabots and lingerie effects trimmed with real lace on their undercoat frocks. While lace is seen mostly on silk or silk crepe dresses, it has also been used on tweed and charming featherweight tweed dresses with heavy ecru lace in the same tone as the tweed by a famous dressmaker at a recent show. But the most interesting novelty is the use of fine drawn squares of embroidered lawn as jabots. These are edged with bobbin lace.
