(From Our Own Correspondent.) IN AND ABOUT THE CITY. CHRISTCHURCH, July 10. June Frosts. Compared with June of last year, the frosts during last month were very severe. In June, 1929, there were 16 frosts, the most severe recorded at the Magnetic Observatory being 10.6 degrees, but last month there were 27 frosts, the most severe being 16.1 degrees on June 22, the shortest day. In June. 1926. there were 26 frosts, and on the whole they were a little more severe than the frosts last month. There were more frosts recorded last month than has been the case for 10 years at least, and may be for several more years. So far this month there have only been two mornings on which frost was not recorded, the most severe being 13.4 on Tuesday. Aero Club. To take the first steps ih forming a South Canterbury branch of the Canterbury Aero Club, Mr J. C. Mercer, instructor to the club, flew to Timaru to-day, landing at Saltwater Creek. For some time a number of people in Timaru have been interested in the work of the Canterbury Aero Club. To help them the Canterbury Aero Club proposes to form a branch at Timaru. so that people there will be able to tly and. if they wish, to learn to become pilots. Timaru people will be enrolled as ordinary members of the club, and when there is a sufficient number of them they will form a branch committee. Railway Cuts. The task of adjusting the railway schedule to coincide with the alterations announced by the Minister of Railways (Hon. W. A. Veitch) has bene finished, and all details are ready for the inauguration of the amended service in the Canterbury and West Coast district on Sunday next. On and after Monday next the usual 8.35 a.m. express trains from Christchurch to Invercargill wall run on Tuesdays. Thursday and Saturdays only, instead of every day, and the 7 a.m. Invercargill-Lyttelton wharf express will also run on those three days only. The 12.25 p.m. Christchureh-Dunedm mail train will run on Wednesdays and Fridays only, and the 8.40 a.m. Dune-din-Christchurch mail train on Mondays. Wednesdays, and Fridays only. On Mondays the mail train that leaves Christchurch for Dunedin at 8.35 a.m. will make the same stops as are usually made by the 12.25 p.m. Chnst-church-Dunedin mail train. Night express trains will leave ! Christchurch in future on Sundays, 1 Tuesdays and Thursdays, and will go i no farther than Dunedin. Invercargill I passengers who travel by these trains will connect with the Dunedin-Inver-cargill mail train. Night expresses to Christchurch will leave Invercargill on 1 Sundays only, and on Wednesdays and Fridavs will start from Dunedin only, j That means that the Invercargill night express will arrive at Christchurch on Monday mornings, and those from Dunedin on Thursday and Saturday mornings each week. These arrangements will enable a suitable connection to be made with the ChristchurchGrevmouth fxpress trains, which run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Curtailment of services on the Christchurch-Waiau main line and thf Cheviot. Southbridge. Little F J ver, and Methven branch lines are provided for All services between Oxford West and Bexley and between Mount Somer and Soringbum will be definitely suspended. Another effect of the alteratalons will be the operation of classified fares on all Sunday trains, instead of the usual concession fares.
