SLY-GROG SELLING. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 10. Substantial penalties were imposed by Mr E. Page, S.M., this afternoon, on two persono, who appeared at the Magistrate’s Court on sly-grog charges, as a result of a raid made by SeniorSergeant H. H. Butler, and a police party on a house in Willis Street on Tuesday night. Accused were William Pain (23), and Agnes Price, alias Davis (30). Pnin was charged with selling liquor without a license, and the female accused with being privy to the sale in a house of which she was an occupier. Each accused was fined £4O and costs. “BORROWED” CAR. By Telegraph—P* , esf r Association WELLINGTON, July 10. Chased by two policemen, in other cars, Edward Leslie Barker, labourer (20), was driving a car at about 1 o’clock this morning, which had been reported missing earlier in the evening, when he found himself cornered, jumped out and made over some fences. It was useless, however, and he appeared at Court in due course. After hearing the Probation Officer. Mr E. Page, S.M. remarked that quite a number of young housebreakers had started their escapades by taking someone else’s car. He imposed a fine of £ls, in default two months. The fine may be paid at £1 per week.
