I Auckland Amalgamation. ] Referring 10 the proposed merger of i the Auckland and Otahuhu Clubs, the . < chairman said it would be in the in- | terests of trotting and of the people of < Auckland. The Auckland Club wanted a sum of money, a .d could not see its way clear on its own responsibility to carry out improvements without assistance. • After discussion, the following notice of motion by the Auckland Club, was carried: “That the Conference approves of the proposed merger of the Otahuhu Trotting Club with the Auckland Trotting Club, in terms of a draft agreement now submitted: and further approves the issue to the latter club of the existing totalisator permits, and all other rights and privileges whatsoever, of the Otahuhu Trotting Club, and that J all future consideration of permits of j the Auckland Trotting Club shall be viewed by the Conference in the right | of and with due regard to the merger of j Otahuhu Trotting Club.” . Rules 12 and 104 were amended to | specifically apply in this instance to : the two clubs. Cups and Trophies. The difficulties, of providing cups for all events named* as “cups” were mentioned. one speaker stating that a 30/pewter pot had been bought to comply with the rules. A motion was passed amending the rules to provide that the principal race of the day might be called a Trotting Cup Handicap, even though some other form or trophy were given. Other rules amended were:— Rule 108: Add “The Association, when approving the amount of stakes on a club’s programme, shall have regard as far as it may find expedient to any ; change in the number of days on which : the totalisator is used by such Club in the current year.” Rule 149: Insert after the word “contrary" in the twelfth line, the following: “Provided always that an owner who desires to register a mare solely for the purpose of having such mare’s name entered in the New Zealand Trotting Stud Book, shall upon inserting a statement to that effect in his application for registration, be absolved from paying the fee specified in Rule 407; provided further that should such owner subsequently desire to race such mare, he may do so providing he first pays to the Association, the fee of £l, prescribed by Rule 407, and fulfils any other requirements of the Rules of Trotting relating to the registration of horses.” Rule 369 : Add at the end of the Rule, “Notice calling upon any person to show cause why he should not be dealt with for a breach of any part of this rule, shall be deemed to have been served upon him if the same be delivered to him personally, or left at his usual place of abode with some inmate thereof appearing to be above the age of fourteen years, or forwarded to him by registered letter addressed to him at his usual or last known place of abode or business, at least seven days before he has to appear.” Handicapping Question. Discussing general remits moved by the Conference executive for the amendment of the handicapping rules, the chairman said the penalty on horses should be definitely fixed by the Conference, so that every man would get a lair deal.

It was decided to carry on the present system ol handicapping until July 31st, 1931. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mr H. F. Nicol (Ashburton); vice-president, Mr John Rowe (Auckland); executive, Messrs C. M. Ollivier, B. S. Irwin, H. R. Mackenzie. Nominations for the South Canterbury Hunt meeting are due at 9 p.m. to-morrow. The New Brighton Trotting Club applied to the Trotting Conference for September 6, October 18, December 13 and March 14. As the South Canterbury Jockey Club arranged October 18 as the second day of its meeting, the Dates Committee decided to recommend that the New Brighton Club should cancel its date of October 18, and instead hold a two-day meeting on February 28 and March 2. Oamaru Jockey Club representatives appeared before the Licensing Committee of the Racing Conference to secure January 2 and 3 as racing dates for next season, but were unsuccessful. The South Canterbury Jockey Club will hold a spring meeting on two days in October, between the Dunedin and Wellington meetings, its application for these dates having been approved by the Dates Committee. The New Brighton Trotting Club raced at this period last season, but it withdrew the October application when South Canterbury claimed the date. New Brighton will hold one-day meetings in September and December, and a two-day meeting in the autumn.
