The New Zealand league team engaged in an exhilarating contest against New South Wales district at Bathurst to-day. The largest crowd in twenty years was present. The weather was fine, and the ground in good order. New Zealand won by 20 points to 16. The New Zealand forwards were prominent in the early play. Abbott broke away from a scrum, and Brisbane scored. Shortly afterwards, Brisbane was tackled hard by Wright, and left the field with concussion. Dufty missed ati effort at a penalty goal. Then Wright scored a try from the quarter line. His attempt at goal failed. Watene passed the ball to Meyer, who scored, Gregory converting. Lattsi Abbott again secured, transferred to Griffith, who handed on to Meyer, the latter scoring in a good position. Gregory added the major points. Then Sara added a try for the Westerners. Brilliant work by Sara and Wright gave an opening to Green, who crossed the line. Sara failed to convert. A rearrangement of the New Zealand team was then made, Dufty being transferred to five-eighths, and Gregory taking the full-back’s position. At this juncture, Mobbins retired with an injured nose.
