I RESPECTFULLY request the Citizens of Timaru to close their places of business, TO-MORROW, between 11.15 a.m. and 11.45 a.m., as a mark of respect to the late Sir Joseph Ward, whose body will pass through Timaru on the first express south to Invercargill. NOTICE OF INTENTION TO RAISE LOAN.

DUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given * that at a Special Meeting of the Timaru Borough Council, held on the 7tli day of JULY. 1930. the following resolution was passed and will be submitted for confirmation at a Special Meeting of the Council to be held on the 4th day of AUGUST, 1930. at 7.30 p.m. at the Borough Council Chambers, King G-orge’s Place, Timaru. RESOLUTION. “ That in exercise of the powers conferred on it by ‘ The Local Bodies Loans Act. 1926,' ‘ The Local Authorities Empowering (Relief of Unemployment) Act. 1926,’ and of all other powers and authorities so enabling it the Timaru Borough Council resolve by way o' Special Order to raise by way of loan Six Thousand Pounds (£6000) by means of sale of debentures to the public; such debentures to be in denominations of One Hundred Pounds (£100) and to be redeemable on the Ist day of April, 1941. The interest to be paid on such loan to be at a rate not exceeding 5* p.c. per annum payable half-yearly on the Ist daj r s of April and October in each year during the currency of the loan and commencing on the Ist day o| April, 1931. The sinking fund to be provided by the payment thereto of not less than £3 0s 6d per centum per annum on the total amount of the loan commencing on the Ist day of April, 1931. The Public Trustee to be appointed Sinking Fund Commissioner, and each annual instalment in respect to such sinking fund to be paid to him or such agent as may be appointed by him. The payment of interest and sinking fund to be secured by a special rate of .074 d in the £ on the unimproved value of all rateable property of the Borough of Timaru.”

RESOLUTION. “ That the Timaru Borough Council hereby resolves by way of Special Order to widen the Junction of Sefton and LeCren Streets by adding thereto the strips of land delineated on the plan annexed hereto and therein coloured red.” N.B.—The plan referred to in the above resolution may be seen at the office of the Borough Engineer.
