PAY ROLL STOLEN.
FROM CITY TREASURY. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, July 8. Diligent inquiries are being made by the detective force into the disappearance of notes amounting to between £6OO and £7OO from the City Treasury last Friday. It is gathered that in accordance with custom the pay-roll had been made up in a special box till, which is taken round various jobs in a pay-car. This box was rifled, the notes being taken, and silver left, apparently being too bulky for the limited time the thief had to commit the theft.
