Mr J. Moyes is in Auckland, attending the annual conference of the New Zealand Bowling Association, as delegate from South Canterbury. It is understood that the Rev. C. G. Scrimgeour, Meth iist minister of Auckland, will be the first chaplain appointed to the Ail* Force. He lately passed his examination for pilot’s “A” license. —Press Association message from Wellington.

Mr J. W. Nicholson, manager of the Gore branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, will retire at the end of July. Mr Nicholson has had 45 years of service with the bank, commencing at Dunedin in 1885. He was successively at Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, Timaru, and in 1910 was appointed manager at Tapanui. In 1927 he was appointed manager at Gore, and during his 45 years with the bank the total period during which he has been away from duty owing to sickness has been a month. It is understood that after his retirement Mr and Mrs Nicholson will move to a warmer climate.

Mr George Greig, senior busihess agent at the Railway Department’s head office, Wellington, has been appointed stationmaster at Dunedin, in succession of Mr K. J. Chambers, who retired from the position in April last. Mr Greig joined the staff as a cadet at Timaru in 1893, and was stationed at various towns in Canterbury till 1905, when he was appointed assistant relieving officer at Invercargill. In 1906 he was transferred to Nightcaps as stationmaster and later to Middlemarch in a similar capacity. In 1909 he was promoted to clerk at Oamaru and from there he went to Clinton, where he remained until 1914, when he was appointed stationmaster at Wingatui. In 1918 he was transferred to the North Island where he was in charge of several stations, finally being appointed to Newmarket in 1922. A year later he was transferred to Dunedin as traffic inspector and on the opening of the Department’s commercial branch in 1925, he was appointed local business agent, which position he held until 1929, when he was appointed to the head office, Wellington, as senior business agent.
