WAIMATAITAI SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the WaiI mataitai School Committee was held last night. Present—Messrs F. Oxford (acting chairman). A. L. Lamb. P. Clark. G. G. Lewis. H. G. Naylor. C. S. Johnson. J. G. Jowsey and H. L. Warsaw. The headmaster (Mr R. A. Malcolm) reported that on June 13. the roll was 705. average roll 655. and percentage 92.9. On July 4 the roll was 705; average 675, and percentage 95.7. The attendance, despite the severely cold mornings, was very satisfactory, and not a great number were kept at home by colds. The painting of the school was nearly complete. and added materially to the general appearance i and neatness. Inspectors McNeil. Wyn. Irwin, and Brunton visited the school ! last week for their mid-year inspec- j | tion. and had expressed themselves as being extremely pleased with the pro- j gress of the children for that period | of the year. The report was adopted. The headmaster stated that the Board had been communicated with in regard to Standard 111 room, and much-needed repairs had been made, i Messrs Clark and Lamb reported for the Visiting Committee that the floor- ■ ing in one of the class rooms and 1 porch was worn very thin and was in j a dangerous state. This was in the j old portion of the building, and it was , recommended that this be attended to . immediately. Some of the recently j laid asphalt had been lifted by the j frost, and would require attention. J The headmaster stated that one of the children had gone through the floor mentioned by the Visiting Committee. The flooring was fifty years , old.—Referred to Education Board. Referring to a children's fancy dress ! dance organised by the teachers. Mr ! Malcolm said that it had been i thought desirable to have this func- j tion in August—The meeting approved ■ of the suggestion. Accounts amounting to £2B 8s were : passed for payment.
