“DANGEROUS PRECEDENT.”
MOTOR ASSOCIATION PERTURBED. I By Telegrwnh—' Associatfon. WELLINGTON, July 7. “If the Mayor and local bodies are successful in getting this Bill through, giving the Highways Board authority to construct ramps, it will be a precedent which can be carried out throughout the Dominion, and an immense amount of the Highways Board’s funds can be used in constructing ramps all over New Zealand. It is a dangerous precedent to embark upon.” The Wellington Automobile Club to-night decided to confer with the Lower Hutt Borough Council, and the Makara and Hutt Cojjnty Councils, j with a view to giving evidence against ! the Bill in which it is proposed to | give authority for the construction of ; a ramp over the Petone crossing, and the above remarks were made by the chairman. Mr A. E. Butt, in outlining the position. The Club's opinion is that visibility at the crossing has been so improved as to render a ramp an unnecessary expense.
